Heroes of the Storm might be still many months away from its official launch date, but the team working on it at Blizzard is keen to show fans of the Multiplayer Online Battle Arena genre some of the core concepts that will underpin the coming experience.
In an official blog post, the company explains that, at first, all players will be able to choose five heroes to use for free from a weekly rotation that is determined by the team.

Blizzard adds, “Once you accumulate enough experience and reach Level 7, you’ll also unlock an additional weekly hero rotation slot, giving you a total of six free heroes to choose from each week. The company has not offered an official figure for the number of characters that will be included in Heroes of the Storm when the title is officially launched.
An in-game currency called Gold can also be used to add a hero to a player account on a permanent basis, and all players are able to start to earn it at level 5, by simply getting more experience and by completing a set of daily quests created by Blizzard, which will be opened up at Level 6.
Heroes of the Storm is also designed to allow gamers to simply test out the abilities of all the included characters, using a special closed-custom map.
Gamers will be able to choose the behavior of bots and minions and can also choose hero abilities and cooldowns to make sure that they get a real feel for how each character works in battle.
Some fans will be disappointed to hear that they cannot try out heroes in actual battles for a limited period of time.
Blizzard adds, “If you’re eager to unlock a hero, you’ll also be able to purchase one with real money. Additionally, players who pre-order Diablo III: Reaper of Souls will be granted a future unlock of Valla the Demon Hunter at no additional cost.”
It’s unclear how much a character in Heroes of the Storm will cost, and an official announcement will probably be made in a future blog post.
The title will probably be delivered in closed beta form before the end of the year, and Blizzard has already revealed that one of the included heroes will be Tychus Findlay.
